The Golden hour is when natural light is at it's best 1 hour before sunrise and 1 hr after sunset
set camera to auto turn flash off set iso to 100 after sunset put up to as high as camera will allow set white balance to cloudy/shade to ensure capture all rich colours f8-f11 shutter speed 1/1000th sec if to dark reduce to 1/750th sec and reduce further as sun as sunsets - after sunset reduce even further - you will have around 20 mins after sun set for capturing the changing light before darkness falls
for point and shoot - point camera to one side of sun 1/2 depress button and hold there then point to sun and completely press shutter button
